Weekend Recap

I got a little stroke of luck last night. I came into work and wasn't scheduled so I happily left. It was a fight night anyway so I'm sure I didn't miss much other than some drunk meatheads in Affliction gear. I had dinner at my parents then headed to meet ex roomie for some drinks. We had really bad falling out that lasted a year or so and just reconnected but haven't really spent any time together. We went to a small local bar and I got to meet her new bf, who is definitely a sweetheart and amazing for her. The Patron and Tequila Rose got to both of us so we stopped for food and her bf drove us home. No hangover this morning thank God.

It's Sunday Night Clean Night so I'm headed off to get that under control before bed. Tomorrow is errand day and 2 weeks til classes start. I'm so ready but worried about my work schedule. I'm taking 5 classes plus doing all of my observation hours, trying to attend a Bible Study once a week and I don't know how I'm going to squeeze work into all of that too. I'm confident that things are going to work out, I've come too far.

Almost there

Last night I decided I was gonna get domestic and clean the whole house. I swept and mopped everything and started washing the million loads of clothes I have to do. Then I crashed. I slept most of today to recover. I haven't been feeling so good either and I hope I'm not getting sick. If the weather would make up it's mind I'd be ok but that's Louisiana for you.

My portfolio is gonna be adorable. I hit up the Dollar Tree and got some cute printer paper that has letters and numbers on it and I got a book of stickers to decorate some of my things with. Just 2 more days and it'll be turned in. Everything is just flying by so fast. Work has been really slow the past few weeks so I'm thinking about looking for another job. I'm trying not to jump the gun and over-stress though.

Stress

"When life gives you lemons, get the tequila and salt" Today was a pretty high stress day for me. I have to go to court tomorrow for my case. It's completely unplanned and there are some major kinks thrown into it. I've been running around all day making nice and getting the facts. I know someone is going to end up upset tomorrow and it's going to get tense. Then, I had to take Tahyo to the vet. Thank God she is healthy and only goes once a year because she is a mess at the vet. The closed in exam room freaks her out. After I did all my running around I was 30 minutes late to class and about to pee my pants when I got to school. When I got there, I found out the portfolio is due a week earlier than previously discussed. There goes my weekend, as if I had one anyway other than slinging drinks all night just to make ends meet.

The up side is, it's almost over. I'm doing amazing in all of my classes so far and get to observe at a great school on Monday. Next semester isn't going to be the hell I thought it was and I'm a little ways away from an official nervous breakdown. I'll make it as long as I remember to keep breathing. Stress will eat me alive if I let it and damnit, I'm not giving in.

What Weekend?

I got off work insanely early today thank God. I have a million emails to check but I'm on here and Facebook instead. I have to work tomorrow night so nothing interesting going on for me this weekend unfortunately.

I did accomplish a few things this week. I had a nail appointment Wednesday and got my hair done on Thursday. I had a decent but cut off of it. My hair is extremely thick and I needed something shorter and more manageable for awhile. I'm sure by the time Spring rolls around, I'll be bored with it and throw some blonde back in there.

Stressing

I got out of work tonight, took my online quiz and went to dinner with my parents at Texas Roadhouse. Last night, I got all domestic and made chili dogs and baked a cake. I ate one piece, then Tahyo proceeded to lick all of the icing off so I had to toss it. It's just as well, I don't need to be eating more than one piece anyway. I'm dreading tomorrow night at work but I have to keep telling myself it'll be ok.

BFF is sick so there will be no hot mess action going on tonight. I need to finish typing all of my essays anyway. Next week, I've got to visit some schools and turn in my portfolio. I can't wait to start teaching.

I've had problems with panic attacks lately. They run in my family; my grandmother and aunt have had problems with them. Last night I had one out of the blue. Normally, I know one is coming because I can feel that I'm working myself into a tizzy and sometimes I can stop and relax before it gets to that point. Last night, I couldn't. I know that everything is going to be ok but I still worry about finishing school, and whether or not I'll get a teaching job. I have a degree in Criminal Justice and if things ever got terribly bad, I wouldn't hesitate to strap on a gun and badge and work patrol if I had to. Police officers are always needed. I know I need to "let go and let God" but I can be such a control freak at times. It didn't help that at dinner tonight, my dad was saying how my cousin took a leave position teaching at a middle school and now can't find a job. It doesn't help that I have ADD and my mind runs 90 to nothin all the time. Sometimes I think that it's a good idea that I don't really have to much time to stop and freak out otherwise I'd be in the crazy house for sure.

Slow and simple

I have an obsession with putting everything away. My house has no storage space whatsoever so I'm constantly getting baskets and things to tuck away all my stuff. My mom hit a basket haul when her neighbor was moving out. I took a few and made magazine holders, a place to store extra TP in the guest bathroom, and a place for some of my children's books. I still have 2 more I need to do something with.

I've posted before about my organizational troubles and I've decided to focus on at least one task in one room a day instead of trying to do it all at once. I don't have many actual days off where I'm not either working, doing school projects, chasing kids for my case, or being in class or observing one so until I get a break, I'm going to take it slow. My task for today was to move the recliner out of the office and into the guest room. Tomorrow I'll work on something else in the office and in a week or so it should be organized and ready to paint. Slow and and simple is the key.

Sick Day

I'm taking my first web class this semester and I'm not too sure about it. The professor posted an assignment on Saturday that is due Monday at midnight. I did manage to get it all done but if I had worked all weekend it would've been impossible.

I went home sick on Saturday night. I started feeling bad Friday night right before I left work and woke up Saturday feeling horrible. I went into work that night then went home. I got some much needed rest and I'm not running fever anymore but I'm still stopped up and sneezing like crazy.

I feel super old. My little sister turned 18 today. We had a little family get-together at my grandma's with dumplings, corn, green beans, peas, biscuits and apple pie. I have 1 class tommorrow and 1 chapter left in my readings so I've got to get on the Praxis work because the test is in 3 weeks. After that, I feel like I can finally relax.

Lack of Sleep + No Food = No Good

I feel for anyone who has ever worked at a bar. My sleeping schedule is all kinds of jacked up. I'm staying up today as long as it takes to run my errands then I'm taking a nap before I go meet a friend for drinks tommorrow night. I got home at 3 which isn't too bad. I've pretty much slept the past 2 days away except for the time I've been at work tonight and Sunday night. I think the last time I ate was Sunday or possibly early Monday morning so I'm gonna be bad and grab McDonald's breakfast when they open at 5:30. I severly need a break, I don't know whether I'm coming or going. This must be what being on drugs feels like. I wouldn't really know because I only tried pot once and nothing happened. Otherwise, I was/am a good goody. Breaktime is over though because school starts in less than a week whether I'm ready or not.

Tonight Sucked. The End

It was fight night again at work tonight. Silva knocked out Griffin in the first round (thank you Lord!) but the championship match after that lasted waaay too long. Tonight's suckyness can be summed up with some self-explanatory bullets.

*Chasing and fussing at underage drinkers
*Fight in the parking lot
*Broken air conditioner in a building full of sweaty meatheads in Affliction shirts who kept complaining. I wanted to say, "Bitch you are sitting on your ass drinking beer. I'm running my overweight self in circles around this place to get your beer. Don't tell me how fuckin hot it is." Instead I say, "Gosh it is a little warm. I'm sure once the crowd clears it'll be fine. How about I get you another round?"
*Ice machine quit making ice, delivery people finally showed up with very large glacier like ice that was a pain in the ass and looked silly in the cups
*I didn't make jack shit and my car note is due soon
*Wasted an hour and a half waiting to leave
*Have to go exchange brand new, took hours to program BB because the damn keypad won't light up and there is annoying flashing mystery light (Googled both issues and the general consensus is to return it.

FML today. Tommorrow will be better.

Fall Cleaning

I have some serious overhauling to do at home. It's sort of a Fall Cleaning. School starts August 17th and before then, I have to:

1. Finish furnishing the guest room
2. Clean and organize the office
3. Set-up a lap top workstation in either the kitchen or corner of the living room
4. Overhaul my closet (give away all clothes I don't need, organize all shoes and misc. crap in there)
5. Random cleaning duties like washing covers on couch cushions, cleaning rugs, organizing under all sinks, linen closet overhaul

I'm starting today and I've gotta stay motivated. My Yukon also needs to be cleaned and vacuumed sometime this week. It makes things easier when I write it down and discuss it, but I get so overwhelmed. Part of the problem are my hours at work. I still haven't gotten in the groove of getting home at 3 am.

Crack of dawn

Why am I awake at 7 am after working until 3 am pray tell? Because we have a meeting at work this morning. That is the one thing I don't miss about the service industry, early meetings on weekend days all because we're serving a new drink or changing something small and unimportant that they could've told us about before a shift one night instead of getting us up at the crack of dawn. I'm so exhausted I don't know if I'll make it to church this morning but I can hear my grandma saying, "Jesus was tired too when he died for your sins now wasn't he?" "There is no excuse for missing church."

I do love working in a place where everyone in town goes though because I always end up running into someone I needed to get in touch with. That also has alot to do with the fact that this is a small ass town. I saw Moo's trainer last night. She taught us basic obedience and is the best ever plus she owns bully breeds so she knows what's up. On our last class, she said she was moving but ended up staying and working somewhere else. So Mr. Moo will be going back to class ASAP.

Since I've made amazing money this weekend, I think I'm going to spend a bit this afternoon if I'm not taking a nap. I made the mistake of friending a cute little local boutique on Facebook and their new stuff is tempting me every time I log in. I have done great so far with my "Frugal Summer" and wearing what I have, but everyone needs a little reward every now and then.

For my next post. I'll be showing some of my favorite things from around the house.

My old job

I figured I'd finally sit down and explain what my job at the non-profit was before I decided to do the teaching/counseling thing and it's impact on the rest of my life aside from it being my first professional/college graduate job.

Anytime a child needs to be interviewed for any law enforcement reason (sexual abuse, physical abuse, witness to a violent crime, neglect, abandonment) they are interviewed at a special place specifically designed for children by a neutral 3rd party called a forensic interviewer. The interviews are videotaped for court purposes but the child may still have to testify in court. My job was to support the interviewer while the interview was taking place by running the tapes, making sure paperwork was in order and so forth. I was being groomed to actually start the interviewing myself before I left. Most of the time, we interviewed victims of sexual abuse. There is always little to no medical evidence despite what people think and it's often a he said, she said type of case. The interview goes through all the details step by step of the abuse and the interviewer must remain neutral, not showing compassion, anger or shock. Typically these interviewers work for non-profit agencies and are not compensated enough (in my opinion) for what they do.

The job was emotionally tough and was a huge slap in the face for me because growing up, I thought my family was dysfunctional but now I realize I am blessed that I never had to go through some of the things these kids did growing up and what a spoiled brat I was/am.

The Skank

I've enjoyed my little 2 day break before I go into my full weekend of work. Last night I went to K's for dinner. Her husband cooked some amazing catfish couvillion and we ate outside since it was cooled down after the rain. Tonight is domestic night, I made spaghetti and started washing towels and sheets so I don't have much housework to do over the weekend. I went to the library and checked out a few books for poolside reading so I may do that tommorrow. I can already feel summer slipping away so I'm trying to enjoy it as much as possible while it's still here.

My younger brother seems to be enjoying the company of some jobless, older skank that already has a child and the women of the family are up in arms about it. First of all, she slept in the bed with him at my Southern Baptist Great Aunt's house (need I say more!) It's not the child thing, it's just that my brother hasn't always made the best choices in life and we'd prefer him seeing someone who has some sort of direction. Bff and I have already offered to make the trip to Houston to have a word with the young lady and my mother and sister have already offered to come along. I do realize that is quite overbearing but if I was God forbid, with some terrible loser of a man, I'd sure want someone to keep me in check.

Hodge Podge of Thoughts

Basketball season is officially OVER!!! I hate the sqeaking sounds the players shoes make esp. when it's amplified on a sound system in a sports bar. The other night at work, I met a sweet guy and ended up giving him my #. This hasn't happened in awhile so it's nice to know I've stil got game even if he never calls.

Tommorrow is pool day with K then possibly attending the arena football game if A can score 2 tickets. Mississippi Man (my old boss) has season tickets but a certain employee seems to get 4 of them every home game and never goes. Said employee is also the type that does more sitting and gossiping than actually working.

I've got to get cracking on the cleaning since my baby brother T will be here next weekend. I also need to figure out what to get Dad for Father's Day. My guest room is not fit for a guest and this floor isn't gonna mop itself.

I realized how much I've grown up after biting my tongue during an exchange with the neighbor today. I went to take the trash out and Moo ran out the front door. The neighbor's kids were playing in the front yard with the sprinkler and Moo ran over there to have some fun too. I quickly picked him up because it's known that this woman doesn't care for dogs but Moo is pretty darn cute so she's all awwww while discussing dogs and the fact that the people accross the street have pit bulls and OMG how she hates "those dogs". Part of me wanted to be like, "you should research your breeds dumb bitch because you're petting one" but I just nodded and walked home with Moo. I realize that some people will believe what the media portrays and will not form their own opinions and I cannot change their minds.

Furkid Friday

I went into work and there were extras so I went home. I've spent the evening so far playing with the furkids and washing towels, sheets and duvets. I have broken up arguments over toys and toilet paper rolls. What an exciting way to spend a Friday night but at least I'm caught up on my washing and can mop floors when I get in from work tommorrow night. We have baseball and UFC tommorrow so things should be long and boring. UFC starts right after the game ends. Oh the joys!

Bump It review, no service here

I wore my Bump It last night to work with a pony tail and it survived. I can't stay still so I was afraid I'd be tugging at it or checking it all night but nope, I didn't even realize it was in there. I have it in today with a messy bun. It really is every thing I thought it would be and soooo easy to do. I didn't even have to use much hairspray.

Speaking of work, last night I had to refuse service to someone for the first time ever. 2 guys came in around midnight and managed to knock down everything on the table when they sat down. The older looking one couldn't keep his eyes open and was swaying side to side. They didn't smell like weed or alcohol so I'm thinking they were on some kind of pills. He ordered a water (that's strange enough at midnight in a bar) and the younger one ordered a bottled beer. He didn't have ID so he went to the car to get it and nearly fell when he stood up plus he could barely talk when he tried to order. So, I decided I didn't feel like dealing with this mess anymore and when he came back in I refused to serve them and they left without any drama (thank God!).

I'm working tonight while A is attending a cocktail party/open house on the lake. I'm so jealous, I've been watching them build this house for months now and I really wanna see what it looks like inside. I've always been in love with Mediterranean style homes. However, if there is any chance that someone gets to leave tonight, I'll be out the door!

I went looking for shorts today and couldn't find a pair that weren't "coochie cutters" so I pouted and went home. I want some that aren't too short but aren't mawmaw long either. I did buy a short sleeve white button up because mine has seen better days. I went home and decided to make a few cute pairs of cutoffs from some old jeans. I felt bad cutting up a $100 pair but I haven't worn them in forever. They were in a bag of clothes that I've been going to take to Goodwill and never did. My closet needs some serious rehab. It's so disorganized and I just don't know what to do with it. There is a service that revamps closets and I'm seriously thinking about calling to see what they charge (I'm sure it's a freakin arm and a leg and I know we're in a "recession" and all but this chick is laaaazy!)

Wishing for a spot on the beach and a nice cool drink

Since I've been home from work, I've been fussing at the dogs, wrestling random things out of their mouthes and generally running around like a crazy person. I've been working on getting them used to eating dinner later since I'm working later now and it's like I'm running a damn zoo.

We had to call the cops tonight at work because someone stole our rug by the front door. The other night there was an alligator loose in the parking lot behind the building and they had to call Wildlife and Fisheries who of course showed up 2 hours later after the thing had left. Of course, all the guys had to go out and attempt to catch it. I know it sounds like I work in some redneck hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere but we're just close to the lake and the area right behind the building leading to the lake is marshy.

I am beyond exhausted but I have to finish washing before I can head to bed. I'm off Sunday and Monday so I'll catch up on my sleeping then.

Furniture woes and the possibility of becoming a spinster

I have so much to do over the weekend just thinking about it is stressing me out. The furniture people are coming tommorrow to look at my cocktail table. I always get the warranty with all my furniture there is a scratch on the side that I honestly don't know how it happend. In order to file a claim, they have to look at it and tell me what to write so it doesn't get rejected. So it's a huge mess.

We are attempting to plan a canoe trip or 2 for the summer. Nothin spells fun like paddling down the river drunk and getting some sun. I'm working Friday and Saturday and I might pick up Sunday too. Tommorrow, if the furniture people come early enough, I may try to pick up a 2nd job. I have tuition to pay, plus existing student loans that are gonna start biting me in the ass soon.

A boy yet is gone for good this time. I just don't have it in me anymore to stress myself out over him. Normally I'm pretty good at writing people off, but he's the one exception. I deleted him from my phone for the 1000th time but any girl knows that doesn't make you forget the number. We'll see how it goes. He's busy with family stuff this weekend and I'm just gonna work my ass off so maybe the chances are good.

A and I were talking the other day about how in the South, if you're not married by 25 you're considered an old maid. We both whine and cry about how we'll be spinsters with 25 cats and live next door to each other. We'll be the two 80 year old ladies still barefoot in the bar like we did at 21. I'm sure that won't be the case with either of us but I just feel like I have to get my shit straight before I can even seriously consider settling down. I can't just expect some man to come in, save me, and make all my problems go away.

I've got to get some laundry done, dogs fed and this house cleaned up before I can even consider letting those men in tommorrow.

Wishes

I want to be in a chair here
while drinking these

Oh my God I cannot handle working until 2 am ! I used to be quite the night owl, then I turned into the 8-5er and hated it but this 2 am shit is not gonna fly for this chick at all. The issue is, I have 24 credit hours to take to get my teaching certificate and I want to do it as fast as possible. So, working a normal 8-5 job will not work with that schedule. Plus, the great state of Louisiana is still in a hiring freeze until the fiscal year ends in June so unless I want to work somewhere for crap pay, I have no other choices. (Thank you Bobby f-ing Jindal! And you wonder why college graduates are moving out of LA as soon as they finish)

On the bright side, I made decent money event though it was slow.

Fail and Excuse me Mr. Dillo

So, I have to re-take a part of my work test. I completely bombed the specialty drinks part of it so I have to go back in tommorrow and re-do it. At least it's not the whole thing which BTW, was 28 pages long and took about and hour and a half. Apparently the service industry is taking their stuff seriously these days.

I went to Target and didn't do too much damage. I replaced my notebook mouse that the puppy ate, got some index cards and envelopes. I was debated on a pink or green bag but purchased neither because I got tired of debating and didn't want them both.

Then I had dinner with my parents and gave A-boy laptop buying advice while eating. He is out of town for work and decided to buy one. The poor thing has more money than he knows what to do with and no common sense so I had to make sure he didn't leave with the most expensive thing just to play games on at work.

School starts June 8th and I'm seriously looking forward to it. I'm taking things seriously this time and not fooling around like I did with my undergrad.

I have a serious armadillo problem and I don't know what to do about it. They are everywhere, digging up the yard and irritating my poor dogs. I've been reading up on it and here are a few solutions out there:
1. Small garden fencing (this would be impossible)
2. Professional removal service (pest control laughed at me)
3. Coyote urine (now how in the hell do I acquire that?)
4. Build your own trap ( A, I'm not handy and B, what do I do with them after I've trapped them assuming the trap I built works?)
So, I think I'll just stick with complaining about them for now. Ah, the perks of living in the suburb of the suburbs.
